Google has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to source renewable energy from the planned Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

This deal represents Google’s first offshore wind energy PPA in both Taiwan and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The partnership will help Google access affordable, carbon-free electricity to support the growing energy needs of its data centers and offices in Taiwan.

Slated to begin operations in 2027, the initial phase of the Fengmiao project is expected to be a significant step forward in advancing Taiwan’s offshore wind energy sector.

This project is the first to achieve full financing under Taiwan’s third phase of offshore wind block development, following the framework set by the Bureau of Energy.

According to Power Technology, Google is also broadening its clean energy strategy in Taiwan beyond offshore wind. The company recently entered into the country’s first corporate agreement for geothermal energy, bolstering its access to stable, around-the-clock renewable power.

These initiatives build on Google’s earlier efforts in solar energy within Taiwan, which include the nation’s first corporate power purchase agreement for renewables and a collaboration with BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure Investments aimed at developing 1 gigawatt of solar capacity.
