Prometheus Hyperscale, PureWest Energy, and Frontier Carbon Solutions kicked off a first-of-its-kind partnership focused on driving innovation and sustainability while contributing to Wyoming’s long-term economic growth.
“This partnership represents an unprecedented opportunity to bridge the gap to a net-zero future using local resources,” said Trenton Thornock, Prometheus Hyperscale Founder and CEO. “Wyoming wins together when we leverage our natural resources and innovative spirit. PureWest’s verified low-carbon natural gas and Frontier’s advanced carbon capture and storage solutions enable us to build sustainable, next-generation data centers for the age of AI.”
Together, the three companies plan to deliver carbon-neutral, flexible power for backup, balancing and baseload use — tailored to the unique needs of high-density data environments. PureWest will be Prometheus’ preferred partner for verified low-carbon and low-water intensity natural gas, and Frontier will be the preferred provider of high-quality, biogenic source carbon removal.
“PureWest’s goal to be the region’s energy supplier of choice is rooted in innovation and cutting-edge technology, and today’s exciting announcement reflects our ongoing mission and progress,” said Ty Harrison, President and CFO of PureWest. “We’re proud to partner with Prometheus and Frontier because this project affirms the critical role that verified low-carbon natural gas will play in sustainably meeting the growing energy needs of AI and its related infrastructure. PureWest is committed to ensuring Wyoming continues to be a leader in delivering scalable energy and decarbonization solutions for the data-driven future of the United States.”
By using PureWest’s verified low-carbon natural gas and combining it with Frontier’s traceable carbon removal credits, Prometheus will offer tenants dispatchable, flexible generation with a zero-carbon footprint and end-to-end traceability — at a scale and economic profile superior to many emerging alternatives. Frontier’s carbon credits will be generated by capturing biogenic carbon dioxide from various facilities across the Mountain West and transporting liquid CO2 to Frontier’s carbon sequestration facility in Southwestern Wyoming. Prometheus’ Wyoming project is planned to be 1.2GW with a unique ability to increase significantly. The first phase of Prometheus’ data center campus will seek to utilize over 500,000 tons per annum of carbon removals.
“Scaled carbon removal unlocks tangible benefits across industries, and by integrating our Wyoming carbon storage solutions, we can help to create a blueprint for how to sustainably power data centers,” said Steve Lowenthal, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Frontier. “We are honored to work in collaboration with Prometheus and PureWest as the carbon management provider of choice for this exciting project for Wyoming.”
