Microsoft has unveiled its first data center region in Chile- ‘Chile Central’, located in the Santiago metropolitan area. The new infrastructure includes three physically independent sites, marking a major investment aimed at accelerating Chile’s digital transformation and strengthening its position in the global cloud ecosystem.

Integrated into Microsoft’s global cloud network, Chile Central will serve public and private sector clients across Chile and neighboring countries. The company promises high standards of security, privacy, and compliance, enabling organizations to store data locally and harness digital innovation.

Services offered include Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Power Platform, all hosted within Chilean borders. The new data centers use non-evaporative cooling systems, such as air-cooled chillers and direct expansion units, which operate in a closed loop, significantly reducing water consumption, with minimal use only for humidification, according to Microsoft.

Tito Arciniega, president of Microsoft Latin America, said: “Microsoft’s cloud data center infrastructure in Chile will play a fundamental role in our strategy for Latin America and will help establish a hub that radiates innovation from the region to the world. With Chilean companies integrated into the global economy and exporting goods and services worldwide, this new cloud region will support and stimulate economic growth, allowing businesses and governments to take advantage of the benefits of the cloud.”

“With the inauguration today of our first Data Center Region in Chile, we are not only deploying technological infrastructure that provides the most innovative cloud services, offering high levels of reliability, security, privacy, and data residency—we are building the future. With more than 30 years as a company in Chile, that is why our investment plan, Transforma Chile, is a driver of progress that advances the country’s digital agenda, strengthening industries, impacting economic development and GDP, creating jobs, bridging connectivity and skills gaps, and ultimately supporting Chile’s growth.” – Fernando López Iervasi, President of Microsoft South America Hispanic.
