Gentari and Gamuda have teamed up to develop 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity to meet the soaring power needs of hyperscale data centers in Malaysia.
Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari, will partner with Gamuda Energy Sdn Bhd to roll out large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS). The initiative falls under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).
The planned capacity is expected to play a key role in supporting hyperscale data centers – vital hubs for cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital services – with demand projected to exceed 5 GW of dependable power by 2035.
Gentari Chief Renewables Officer Low Kian Min said: “Expanding renewable energy capacity is not only critical for meeting rising demand but also key to driving long-term growth. At Gentari, we are committed to working with partners like Gamuda to deliver practical, scalable clean energy projects that advance the nation’s net-zero ambitions.”
Gamuda Energy Director Joshua Kong Sing Hoe comments: “Availability of clean energy is a critical factor for attracting and retaining foreign direct investment from the world’s leading technology companies. With our combined strengths and bankability, we can support data center partners with a sustainable and scalable renewable energy pipeline.”
