ABB is taking a deeper position in the fast-changing clean power market with a strategic partnership and minority investment in LevelTen Energy, a US-based marketplace for clean energy transactions. The move gives ABB access to a platform that has facilitated more than 20 GW of clean energy transactions across more than 35 markets in North America and Europe. LevelTen works with hyperscalers, commercial and industrial companies, utilities and other energy buyers navigating increasingly complicated renewable power deals. Financial terms of the investment remain undisclosed.
ABB Targets the Hard Part of Corporate Decarbonization
The investment addresses a problem that sits between corporate sustainability targets and the physical realities of procuring electricity. Companies can install renewable generation onsite and improve efficiency, but large-scale clean power procurement often demands long-term contracts, market expertise and careful management of energy attributes. That complexity becomes more significant for businesses that need dependable electricity around the clock while attempting to control costs and reduce emissions. ABB now wants to connect those procurement decisions more closely with the electrification, digital and energy-management systems it already sells.

That positioning pushes ABB beyond the traditional equipment sale and deeper into the commercial decisions that determine how industrial customers source and manage electricity. The company can combine electrification hardware, digital tools, energy management and advisory services with LevelTen’s renewable contracting capabilities. The resulting proposition could give customers a more connected route from deciding how much clean electricity they need to managing the performance of those energy commitments. For ABB, the opportunity sits in turning energy procurement into a longer lifecycle relationship rather than a standalone transaction.
LevelTen Adds Renewable Contracting to ABB’s Energy Stack
The partnership comes as corporate buyers face tougher expectations around the timing and location of renewable electricity consumption. Annual renewable energy matching has increasingly given way to approaches that examine whether clean power generation aligns more closely with actual electricity demand. That shift creates a larger role for storage, microgrids and sophisticated energy management systems that can coordinate consumption with available power. ABB already operates across those technologies, while LevelTen brings expertise in clean energy contracts and environmental attribute certificate trading.
This combination could matter particularly for large industrial and commercial customers whose electricity loads do not neatly match renewable generation profiles. A factory, logistics operation or technology facility can require consistent power even when wind and solar output fluctuate. Energy storage and microgrids can help manage that mismatch, but procurement decisions still determine where the underlying clean electricity comes from and what contractual claims a customer can make about it. ABB’s partnership with LevelTen connects those commercial and technical layers within a broader energy and carbon advisory offering.
ABB Opens Access to LevelTen’s Clean Energy Network
The relationship could create value on both sides of the partnership by connecting two different parts of the energy ecosystem. ABB gains access to LevelTen’s network of renewable energy developers and projects, while LevelTen gains exposure to ABB’s global customer base and industrial expertise. That reach could create opportunities for ABB to sell monitoring, optimization and lifecycle services alongside renewable procurement. LevelTen, in turn, can use ABB’s relationships across manufacturing, industrial and commercial markets to expand the reach of its clean energy marketplace.

For ABB, the Asia-Pacific reference is particularly notable because the company already has a substantial industrial footprint across markets where electrification demand continues to expand. Clean power procurement in these markets can involve different regulatory structures, grid conditions and renewable project economics. A platform with established market relationships can give ABB another layer of capability as customers seek to assemble multi-market decarbonization strategies. The commercial opportunity therefore extends beyond selling renewable electricity into managing the infrastructure and operational decisions surrounding it.
LevelTen Sees Broader Clean Power Demand
LevelTen’s CEO Bryce Smith framed the deal around expanding access to clean electricity and related portfolio-management capabilities. “This strategic partnership will generate new clean energy solutions, allowing ABB’s global customers to seamlessly tap into clean power, capacity, and portfolio management tools. Together, we have a real opportunity to help even more customers decarbonize.”
The statement reflects a broader shift in how large energy consumers approach renewable procurement. Companies increasingly need to consider clean power as an operating input rather than simply a sustainability accounting instrument. That creates demand for tools that connect electricity contracts, capacity considerations, portfolio management and environmental attributes with actual business operations. ABB’s industrial reach gives LevelTen a route into customers that may need those capabilities as they electrify more of their operations.
ABB Builds a Wider Energy Advisory Portfolio
The LevelTen investment forms part of ABB’s broader effort to build an ecosystem around energy and carbon services. The company has made similar moves, including its investment in Gridcog, as it expands capabilities spanning energy procurement, advisory services and digital energy management. The strategy points toward a more integrated model in which ABB can help commercial and industrial customers make decisions across generation, procurement, storage, electrification and energy optimization.
The investment came through ABB Electrification Ventures, the venture capital arm of ABB’s Electrification business area. Since 2021, ABB Electrification Ventures has invested more than $110 million across 18 startups, adding LevelTen to a portfolio focused on technologies that support productivity, efficiency and sustainability. ABB Ventures, the group’s wider venture capital unit, has invested more than $500 million in startups since its formation in 2010. Those investments align with ABB’s broader electrification, automation and motion businesses.
Clean Energy Procurement Becomes an Infrastructure Decision
ABB’s LevelTen deal signals how renewable procurement is becoming increasingly intertwined with the physical architecture of modern electricity consumption. A long-term power agreement no longer sits in isolation from the systems that manage loads, store electricity or coordinate distributed energy resources.
