Waaree Builds Two New Data Center Units Aurovault and Sunstar

Waaree Renewable Technologies is building a dedicated corporate structure for its planned data center business as demand for AI infrastructure

Waaree Renewable Technologies is building a dedicated corporate structure for its planned data center business as demand for AI infrastructure accelerates across India. Its subsidiary, Waaree Green Data Centers Private Limited, formerly known as Sunsantional Energy Private Limited, incorporated Aurovault Data Centers Private Limited on Sept. 14, according to a regulatory disclosure. The new company is wholly owned by Waaree Green Data Centers and has been established to pursue data center development in India and international markets. The move follows the incorporation of Sunstar Data Centers Private Limited on Sept. 11, giving Waaree two newly created entities focused on digital infrastructure within days of one another.

Aurovault’s mandate covers the full development lifecycle, from financing and construction to ownership, leasing, operations and commercialization. Its planned portfolio includes hyperscale, AI-ready and edge data centers, along with disaster recovery centers, cloud infrastructure facilities, digital infrastructure parks and colocation facilities. The breadth of the mandate points to a strategy that extends beyond traditional colocation into infrastructure designed around increasingly compute-intensive workloads. Neither Aurovault nor Sunstar has begun business operations, and the newly incorporated entities have no operating turnover at this stage.

Aurovault Targets AI And High-Performance Computing

The service portfolio outlined for Aurovault also reaches deeper into the digital infrastructure stack. The company plans to provide colocation, managed hosting, cloud connectivity, internet exchange and network services, alongside disaster recovery, business continuity and data storage capabilities. It also lists cybersecurity, artificial intelligence infrastructure, GPU hosting and high-performance computing among its intended activities. That combination places accelerated computing and AI infrastructure alongside conventional data center services, reflecting the changing technical requirements of new workloads.

Waaree Green Data Centers will retain full ownership of both new entities, subscribing to their memoranda of association for cash consideration. The structure gives the parent company separate vehicles through which it can potentially develop, finance and operate different infrastructure opportunities without immediately committing either subsidiary to a specific project. No operating assets, revenue or commercial deployment have been disclosed for the new companies so far. Therefore, the announcements establish corporate platforms for the business rather than confirming a live data center project, tenant agreement or commissioned capacity.

India Data Center Market Sets Larger Target

The expansion comes as India’s data center industry enters a period of rapid capacity growth driven by cloud computing, AI workloads and hyperscale investment. Mordor Intelligence estimates India’s installed data center capacity at 4.48 GW in 2025 and projects it to reach 15.21 GW by 2031, representing a 22.79% compound annual growth rate during the forecast period. Its market assessment also points to hyperscalers pre-committing 50 MW to 100 MW blocks and using long-term power purchase agreements to secure electricity for large facilities. The scale of those requirements is increasingly tying data center development to power availability, infrastructure financing and long-duration capacity planning.

For Waaree, the timing places its new subsidiaries inside a market where AI is changing the economics of infrastructure. GPU hosting and high-performance computing require substantially different power, cooling, networking and redundancy considerations from conventional enterprise workloads, creating opportunities for developers that can assemble those capabilities at scale. Yet incorporation alone does not establish how much capacity Waaree ultimately intends to build, where its facilities will be located or how quickly they could reach commercial operation. The two subsidiaries instead mark an early corporate step toward competing for a share of India’s expanding digital infrastructure build-out.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
