Henox IT and Data Centers has unveiled Henox Crest, a proposed coastal submarine cable system designed to strengthen India’s digital infrastructure as demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and hyperscale data centers accelerates. Announced Monday, the project will connect Gujarat, Mangaluru, Kochi, Chennai and Visakhapatnam through a high-capacity network intended to bring connectivity closer to emerging centers of digital demand. Henox plans to combine submarine cables with terrestrial networks, edge data centers and strategic compute infrastructure along the corridor, creating an integrated platform for digital services. The company aims to improve access to AI workloads, enterprise applications and cloud platforms while establishing new coastal hubs that can support the next phase of India’s digital expansion.

Henox Crest Targets New Coastal Connectivity Hubs

Henox Crest seeks to address a strategic infrastructure challenge: expanding domestic connectivity while reducing reliance on existing international gateways. The proposed network would establish carrier-neutral coastal hubs, giving telecommunications operators and digital infrastructure providers additional locations from which to build and extend their networks. Gujarat will anchor the western corridor, linking India with the United Arab Emirates, the broader Middle East, Europe and Africa. On the eastern coast, Visakhapatnam will connect with the SubConnex system, creating onward connectivity to Singapore, Malaysia and the U.S. West Coast.

The proposed architecture extends beyond conventional subsea connectivity by linking transmission infrastructure with computing resources closer to end users. This approach could help businesses and cloud providers improve access to digital services as AI applications place greater demands on network performance and latency. Bringing edge data centers into the corridor could also support workloads that benefit from processing data nearer to their sources, although Henox has not disclosed detailed deployment plans for those facilities. The project’s eventual impact will depend on the network’s final design, capacity, commercial agreements and execution.

APTelecom Partnership Supports Project Development

Henox has appointed APTelecom as its strategic technical and commercial partner for Henox Crest. The partnership places technical and commercial collaboration at the center of the project’s development as the company advances its proposed connectivity architecture. Henox has not disclosed investment requirements, financing arrangements, expected construction costs or a project completion timeline. Those details will help determine the scale of the undertaking and how quickly the proposed network could contribute to India’s digital infrastructure.

“Henox Crest is a milestone for India’s digital infrastructure. Henox Crest is designed to create a high-speed coastal backbone that both powers the AI era and diversifies how India connects to the world — carrier-neutral, open to all, and creating new hubs where operators can build. This is nation-building infrastructure that will help power India’s AI growth for decades to come,” said Shaktivel K, CEO, Henox IT and Data Centers. The statement positions the project as a long-term infrastructure investment rather than a standalone cable deployment. Its carrier-neutral model could offer operators additional options for network expansion and interconnection, while the combination of subsea and terrestrial infrastructure could support a wider range of digital services. However, the project’s commercial development and strategic partner engagement remain underway, leaving key questions about financing, capacity commitments and implementation unresolved.

India’s Data Center Expansion Raises Connectivity Stakes

Henox expects India’s data center capacity to rise from 2.2 gigawatts in 2025 to 12 GW by 2030, with AI-dedicated capacity expanding significantly. That projected increase highlights the infrastructure requirements accompanying the country’s ambitions to attract more AI computing, cloud services and enterprise workloads. Data center growth requires more than additional computing capacity; operators also need resilient networks, dependable power supplies and connectivity capable of moving data between facilities, businesses and international markets. Henox Crest seeks to address part of that requirement by creating additional coastal routes and integrating connectivity with regional compute infrastructure.

The proposal now faces the engineering, commercial and partnership work required to move from concept toward deployment. Henox is conducting engineering validation, engaging strategic partners and advancing commercial development, but has not announced a construction schedule or financial commitment. The next phase will clarify how the company intends to build the corridor, secure participation from network operators and establish the commercial case for its proposed hubs. For India’s expanding AI economy, the project’s significance will ultimately rest on whether its planned connectivity translates into operational capacity, broader route diversity and reliable access to digital infrastructure.
