Brazil’s renewable energy resources could become a more prominent factor in its competition for data center investment as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva places digital infrastructure, domestic technology development, and clean electricity within the same economic agenda. His latest remarks signal an ambition to turn the country’s energy resources into an advantage for hosting the computing infrastructure that supports artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, and national data storage. The proposal extends beyond attracting foreign operators because Lula also wants Brazil to retain greater control over its digital assets and develop its own artificial intelligence capabilities. For infrastructure investors, that combination raises questions about power procurement, grid readiness, regulatory incentives, and the commercial terms attached to new computing facilities.
