Naver has announced plans to establish a next-generation AI data center in Morocco, teaming up with NVIDIA, AI infrastructure firm Nexus Core Systems, and international investment company Lloyd Capital.
The consortium plans to build a 500-megawatt data facility powered by renewable energy, aimed at delivering sovereign AI computing services across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region. Morocco was chosen for its strategic location, just 15 kilometers from Europe and well-connected via multiple submarine optical cables.
As part of the initiative, Naver Cloud will serve as a platform operator, working alongside Nexus Core Systems and Lloyd Capital to deliver integrated AI services and applications built on an advanced cloud infrastructure.
To meet strict data sovereignty requirements, Naver will develop a sovereign cloud and AI framework capable of handling all operations, data storage, processing, and management, entirely within Morocco.
The project’s first phase is set to begin in Q4 this year, starting with the construction of a 40-megawatt AI supercomputing facility. This initial build will feature NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell (GB200) GPUs, similar to those deployed in a recent project in Armenia. Over time, the facility is expected to scale up to a full capacity of 500 megawatts.
To ensure a reliable and sustainable power supply, the consortium has signed a strategic renewable energy agreement with TAQA, a UAE-based global power producer.
