Elea Data Centers has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Rio de Janeiro and Oracle to advance digital infrastructure in Rio.
The partnership represents another step toward transforming the Olympic Park into the largest data center hub in Latin America and one of the ten largest in the world.
Designed and developed by Elea, Rio AI City will initially deliver 1.5 GW of capacity by 2027, with potential expansion to 3.2 GW by 2032. The hub will be powered entirely by clean energy and will introduce infrastructure capabilities unprecedented in Brazil.
With direct connectivity to major global markets via high-capacity submarine cables, Rio AI City will serve as a strategic entry point for companies seeking available green energy sources.
The hubโs location in one of the worldโs most stable power grids, combined with its 100% renewable energy supply and ability to support the most demanding AI and cloud workloads.
Rio de Janeiro positions itself as a prime destination for companies looking to scale sustainably while reaching new markets.
โWith this partnership, we are taking a decisive step toward fulfilling our purpose of building great green infrastructure,โ said Alessandro Lombardi, President and Founder of Elea Data Centers. โRio AI City is being built with robust infrastructure, clean energy, and high connectivityโready to attract talent and businesses that will shape the next digital era. Brazil, and especially Rio de Janeiro, now have the opportunity to be at the center of this global transformation.โ
โWe are creating the right conditions, leveraging the cityโs clean resources, research institutions, and global connectivity through submarine cables โ so that Rio can position itself as the AI capital of Latin America,โ said Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.
โWith Rio AI City, we reinforce Oracleโs commitment to providing Brazil and Latin America with cutting-edge AI technology and data center infrastructure,โ said Alexandre Maioral, President of Oracle Brazil. โWe aim to help companies and institutions innovate faster, with secure, scalable, and sustainable solutions.โ
โRio has all the conditions to become one of the worldโs great data center hubs: infrastructure, clean energy, and skilled professionals,โ added Osmar Lima, Rioโs Municipal Secretary for Economic Development. โThis project is attracting significant new investment to the city.โ
The Rio AI City project is owned by Elea Data Centers, with institutional support from the City of Rio de Janeiro through the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, the Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar), and Invest.Rio.
