Japan is moving to connect quantum computing with the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence, bringing seven organizations together to develop a platform linking quantum processors, databases and optical networks. Announced Oct. 26, the initiative combines Fujitsu networking subsidiary 1Finity with Nautilus Technologies, Quanmatic, Ghelia, Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), Waseda University and Nagoya University. Work began Sept. 29 with support from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The partners aim to complete development by fiscal 2028, pursue applications from fiscal 2029 and potentially launch a large-scale software-as-a-service platform for allocating power, computing and communications resources around 2030.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
