V.tal’s subsidiary Tecto Data Centers has reached major construction milestones for its Mega Lobster project in Fortaleza, Ceará, marking significant progress toward completion. The company recently installed critical cooling systems, and the overall building structure is nearly finished. The site is scheduled to go live by the end of the year.

Valued at 550 million reais (around US$100 million), Mega Lobster is Tecto’s third data center in Fortaleza and its sixth across Latin America. The new facility will add several megawatts of capacity, primarily serving content providers, cloud platforms, and telecom operators.

The installation of four industrial chillers, essential for temperature control in AI, cloud, and edge computing environments, was completed in July. The main structure (shell) of the facility, under construction since October 2024, is also nearly complete. Engineering company Afonso França Engenharia is overseeing the construction and installation of key cooling systems, while U.S.-based Panduit is supplying components for cabling and network infrastructure.

With a planned total capacity of 20MW, the data center will start operations with a partial load in its first phase. Tecto anticipates the project will generate around 450 direct jobs during construction. The site will feature 10 data halls, a closed-loop water cooling system, and operate entirely on renewable energy sources.

BNamericas has reported that to support its sustainability goals, V.tal signed renewable energy supply contracts in 2024 with Atlas Renewable and Atiaia Renováveis for its data centers. Once operational, Mega Lobster will integrate seamlessly with V.tal’s fiber network, connecting to the company’s two existing Fortaleza data centers and the Ceará Internet Exchange Point (IXP).

Mega Lobster forms part of V.tal’s broader US$1 billion capital investment plan to develop and expand data center infrastructure across Brazil and Latin America.

In parallel, Tecto is preparing to begin construction of a new data center in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, which will be linked to the Malbec submarine cable branch, a joint venture with Meta. The original Porto Alegre site, announced in 2023 under the name V.OA, faced delays after floods in 2024, prompting a relocation to a safer area.

Tecto also has long-term plans to establish a 200MW hyperscale data center campus in Santana do Parnaíba, São Paulo, targeted for 2027.
