Zeo Energy and Ewyze Build Around Data Center Power Constraints

Zeo Energy Corp. is expanding its data center strategy through a partnership with U.S. microgrid developer Ewyze, targeting integrated off-grid power and digital infrastructure projects across the country. The companies plan to combine Zeo’s renewable energy capabilities with Ewyze’s approach to developing dedicated power systems alongside data center campuses. Their model brings solar generation and battery storage together with a dispatchable power source, which can include a grid connection, natural gas or geothermal generation. The strategy reflects a broader shift among data center developers toward power architectures that can operate outside conventional utility timelines.

The companies said their integrated model could reduce the time required to bring new data center capacity online to about two to three years from project initiation, where market, land, permitting, financing and technical conditions support that schedule. That compares with grid interconnection processes that can take five to 10 years in parts of the U.S., creating a growing constraint for operators seeking to secure large blocks of electricity. The partnership therefore targets the gap between the speed of AI infrastructure demand and the slower pace of traditional power development. However, actual project timelines will depend on local permitting, site conditions, financing, generation availability and other technical requirements.

Partnership Covers Development, Financing and Commercialization

Under the agreement, Zeo and Ewyze will collaborate across the development cycle, including site identification and land acquisition, permitting, engineering and construction. The companies will also pursue financing and commercialization opportunities with data center operators and hyperscale customers. That scope gives the partnership responsibility beyond power generation, linking energy infrastructure directly with the physical development and commercial requirements of large computing facilities. The approach could allow prospective customers to evaluate power supply, infrastructure and data center capacity as a coordinated development rather than as separate projects.

“Entering into this cooperation with Ewyze represents an important and strategic step in Zeo’s evolution toward larger-scale renewable energy and power infrastructure opportunities,” said Timothy Bridgewater, CEO of Zeo Energy. “We believe Ewyze’s integrated model, combining off-grid microgrids with data-center development, positions the partnership to address one of the most significant infrastructure bottlenecks of our time. We look forward to developing these opportunities together.”

“The artificial intelligence revolution is fundamentally a power challenge,” added Svante Kumlin, CEO of Ewyze. “AI workloads demand vast amounts of reliable, cost-effective energy, and the existing grid simply cannot deliver it at the speed or scale the market requires. Ewyze was built to solve exactly that problem, by developing the full infrastructure stack from the ground up, integrating renewable generation, battery storage, and data-center assets into a single, coherent platform.”

Zeo Expands Data Center Energy Portfolio

Zeo’s broader energy portfolio already spans several technologies and customer segments. The company operates Sunergy, a residential solar and distributed energy business, while Heliogen focuses on long-duration energy generation and storage for data centers and other energy-intensive industries. Meanwhile, Zeo has pursued direct renewable power opportunities with data center developers, giving the Ewyze agreement a connection to an existing expansion strategy rather than representing an isolated move into the sector.

In February, Zeo signed a memorandum of understanding with AI data center company Creekstone Energy to develop 280 megawatts of solar and storage capacity for Creekstone’s planned data center campus in Millard County, Utah. Creekstone’s broader campus plans call for up to 10 gigawatts of data center capacity, placing the renewable project within a much larger AI infrastructure buildout. The agreement showed Zeo’s interest in supplying dedicated clean power to large-scale computing developments before the latest partnership with Ewyze. The new cooperation broadens that strategy by combining renewable generation, storage, microgrid development and data center infrastructure under a single development framework.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
