China AI energy

China’s artificial intelligence ambitions are becoming inseparable from its energy strategy. The country is positioning its wind, solar and battery industries as strategic infrastructure for the next generation of computing, where access to electricity could determine how quickly technology companies expand. Than treating clean energy as a separate environmental objective Beijing is increasingly connecting renewable generation, energy storage and data center development through coordinated industrial planning. This approach could give developers an advantage in securing electricity, controlling long‑term energy costs and reducing dependence on conventional grid infrastructure. The emerging model also introduces a competitive calculation for the United States, where electricity availability, permitting constraints and growing public resistance increasingly complicate the construction of AI infrastructure. The contest is therefore moving beyond who develops the advanced chips or trains the largest models, toward who can reliably supply the electricity needed to operate them.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
