Chip Power

A large-scale computing rack has a problem that goes beyond just providing enough electricity or removing enough heat. Every extra accelerator makes the demands on power conversion, electrical distribution, coolant circulation, structural support and high-speed connectivity higher while the space inside the rack stays the same. Traditional rack designs handle these needs by using parts with power shelves taking up certain areas liquid manifolds following their own paths and connections fighting for the remaining space. This setup creates a packaging problem as the accelerators move toward 600kW and eventually into the megawatt range. The next chance for improvement is to see these needs as parts of an engineering problem rather than separate installations. An integrated rack can use voltage to reduce the size of electrical parts change the way coolant is delivered and save space for computing and network hardware.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
