While aircraft engines were not originally designed to be used next to a data center, the increasing difficulties of sourcing traditional electricity have led to a new market for these engines. Commercial engines are now being used as static electricity generators. This is due to the increasing disparity between the commercial ambition of artificial intelligence and the infrastructure required to support it. As data centers can be built without knowing if they will have access to electricity, there is an incentive to use non-traditional methods of generating electricity. Even though they may not be as efficient or low emitting as traditional generation methods, they can be a viable option.
