There are many factors that may affect the electrical stability of a data center, even if there is enough energy storage provided. With AI workloads, we are seeing more rapid changes in power demand. The different storage systems will have to cope with rapid changes in power (both short surges and sudden changes in load). To overcome this, each storage system will have different requirements. While Li-ion batteries provide storage capability, hybrid super capacitors provide fast charge/discharge. There may be a need to use both to support the data center. The decision to use one or the other will depend on the commercial factors. The infrastructure lead will need to consider the impact of each storage layer on electrical stability, sizing, cooling, maintenance, space and failure.
