Bloom Launches Power Platform to Expedite Data Center Deployment

Bloom Power Connect

Bloom Energy has launched a new deployment system that it says can cut onsite power installation time by more than 40%, targeting one of the biggest execution challenges facing data center operators. Called Power Connect, the system shifts much of the electrical integration work from construction sites into Bloom’s factories before equipment reaches a customer. The company says the equipment arrives pre-connected, pre-wired and tested, allowing crews to focus on installation rather than assembling critical electrical components in the field. The move comes as data center developers race to secure electricity for AI infrastructure while grid connections, construction schedules and specialized labor remain significant constraints.

Power Connect is designed around a straightforward change in where the work happens. Bloom performs more of the integration inside a controlled manufacturing environment, then ships the completed system to the project site ready for installation and commissioning. That approach can reduce onsite complexity and give operators a more standardized deployment process across large-scale power projects. Bloom says the system can improve deployment consistency and schedule certainty, although the more-than-40% installation reduction remains a company claim rather than an independently verified industry benchmark.

Power Connect brings factory integration to data centers

The launch is closely tied to Bloom’s growing focus on data center power, where the company sees onsite generation as a way to address electricity constraints. Bloom’s Solid Oxide Fuel Cell systems generate electricity through an electrochemical process instead of combustion, providing onsite power for large facilities. The company currently positions its data center offering around faster deployment, resilience and modular scaling, with Energy Server systems available in as little as 90 days, according to Bloom. Meanwhile, Power Connect adds an installation layer to that strategy by attempting to shorten the physical work required after the power equipment reaches a project.

Joe Tavi, head of Bloom Energy’s customer installation group, described the thinking behind the new platform, “Power Connect is the latest innovation supporting our speed-to-power advantage,” said Joe Tavi, head of Bloom Energy’s customer installation group. “It reflects how we’re rethinking the entire power deployment process, moving complexity out of the field and into a controlled manufacturing process. By standardizing critical electrical integration, Bloom Power Connect creates a simpler, more repeatable installation model, helping customers move more quickly from project approval to electrons flowing.” Bloom says it will manufacture and assemble Power Connect in the United States through its existing manufacturing network. The company frames the domestic production strategy as part of its broader push around American manufacturing and deployment capacity.

Oracle deal puts Bloom’s scale into focus

Power Connect arrives as Bloom expands its relationships with major data center and technology companies. Oracle earlier expanded its agreement with Bloom to as much as 2.8GW of capacity after the companies signed an initial 1.2GW agreement, creating one of the larger commercial backdrops for Bloom’s onsite power strategy. Deployments from the original agreement are underway, giving Bloom an active customer environment in which faster installation could have direct relevance. The scale also shows why standardized deployment matters as customers move from individual installations toward much larger power requirements.

Bloom has also worked with Equinix on deployments across 19 data centers representing more than 100MW of capacity. Separately, American Electric Power agreed to a deal covering up to 1GW of Bloom’s SOFC systems for AI data centers operating off-grid. However, those agreements do not establish that Power Connect will serve every project or deliver the claimed installation reduction across those deployments, since the new platform’s commercial rollout and project-specific applications remain separate questions.

Bloom bets speed will become a power advantage

The broader opportunity for Bloom sits in the growing gap between demand for new data center capacity and the ability to deliver power on conventional timelines. Bloom says grid connections can take years in some markets, while its onsite systems can reach data center customers much faster, making installation efficiency another potential lever for shortening deployment schedules. Power Connect therefore extends Bloom’s pitch beyond generating electricity: it is also an attempt to standardize the electrical work needed to put that generation into service.

For data center operators, the significance will come down to whether factory integration can translate into predictable project-level time savings. A shorter installation cycle could help developers coordinate power delivery with increasingly aggressive AI infrastructure construction schedules, but actual results will depend on site conditions, electrical requirements, permitting and project execution. Bloom now has large commercial relationships with Oracle, Equinix and American Electric Power that give the company exposure to customers pursuing power at substantial scale. Power Connect represents Bloom’s latest effort to turn that installed-base momentum into a broader speed-to-power advantage for the next generation of data center infrastructure.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly.
