When Reserved GPU Capacity Fails Acceptance Tests

A Neocloud customer may reserve thousands of GPUs months before a training run or inference deployment begins. However, that reservation does not guarantee that the delivered infrastructure will meet the agreed technical requirements. Problems can emerge when a provider declares a cluster ready, but acceptance tests reveal performance issues, network faults, or cooling limitations. These tests determine whether the infrastructure can support the workloads described in the contract. They also establish whether the delivered service meets the customer’s requirements for usable compute capacity. A cluster may appear operational during an initial inspection but struggle under distributed training. Network congestion, thermal throttling, memory errors, and inconsistent accelerator performance can affect large workloads. The provider may consider the deployment complete, while the customer cannot use the capacity as planned. Functional GPUs alone do not prove that the entire cluster meets its contractual requirements. The acceptance process therefore plays a central role in determining when the customer should begin paying for the service.

Building an AI Startup Without Owning GPUs

Not owning GPUs has become the default, deliberate strategy for building an AI company — not a compromise founders accept reluctantly. H100 rental rates fell 64-75% in fifteen months, a dense ecosystem of neoclouds and inference-as-a-service providers now lets startups skip infrastructure entirely, and credit programs can fund a company’s first year before a founder writes a check
