TCS-ABB

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expanding its long-standing relationship with industrial technology giant ABB through a new multi-million, multi-year agreement focused on modernizing the company’s global network operations. The deal significantly broadens TCS’ responsibilities, shifting its role from infrastructure and application management to operating ABB’s worldwide network through an integrated network-as-a-service model. The move reflects a broader enterprise trend where global manufacturers increasingly rely on AI-driven network intelligence to support complex digital operations. As enterprises prepare for more connected industrial environments, resilient digital infrastructure has become a strategic asset rather than simply an operational necessity.

The agreement builds on more than two decades of collaboration between the two companies. During that period, TCS supported multiple technology modernization initiatives that reshaped ABB’s enterprise systems and cloud capabilities. The latest engagement extends that relationship into one of the most critical layers of enterprise technology: global networking. Rather than treating connectivity as isolated infrastructure, both companies are positioning the network itself as an intelligent operational platform capable of supporting future digital transformation.

TCS Takes End-to-End Responsibility for ABB’s Global Network

Under the expanded engagement, TCS will oversee ABB’s complete global network operations using a comprehensive network-as-a-service operating model. The company will manage network design, integration, operations, orchestration, monitoring, and service delivery across ABB’s international business footprint. This wider scope allows TCS to deliver standardized services while coordinating multiple technology vendors within a unified operational framework. Consequently, ABB gains a globally consistent network environment designed for scalability, operational resilience, and simplified management. The engagement also introduces AI deeper into day-to-day network management. TCS will combine intelligent monitoring, automation, and orchestration capabilities to improve operational visibility while strengthening network performance across global locations. The objective extends beyond maintaining connectivity, focusing instead on enabling networks that continuously optimize performance and adapt to changing business requirements. This approach reflects the growing shift toward autonomous enterprise infrastructure capable of supporting increasingly digital manufacturing environments.

At the center of the agreement sits ABB’s Future Network Model programme, an enterprise-wide initiative aimed at creating a standardized and centrally managed global network architecture. The programme seeks to replace fragmented network environments with a unified digital infrastructure capable of supporting long-term business transformation. TCS will serve as ABB’s strategic programme partner throughout the initiative, designing, integrating, operating, and continuously improving the company’s worldwide network ecosystem. The network platform will emphasize secure operations, standardized governance, and AI-enabled service management across ABB’s global business. TCS will orchestrate ABB’s multi-vendor environment while delivering end-to-end monitoring and coordinated network operations. The model is expected to improve service consistency, strengthen cybersecurity readiness, simplify compliance management, and provide high-performance connectivity throughout ABB’s international operations. These capabilities position the network as an active contributor to enterprise performance instead of functioning solely as supporting infrastructure.

AI Becomes Central to Enterprise Network Operations

Artificial intelligence plays a defining role throughout the expanded partnership. Instead of limiting AI to isolated automation tasks, TCS will embed intelligence across network operations to improve decision-making, operational responsiveness, and service optimization. The company aims to create an environment where network systems can monitor conditions, respond dynamically, and continuously enhance operational performance with minimal disruption. The transformation also aligns with broader enterprise infrastructure trends where AI increasingly supports operational resilience alongside security and compliance objectives. Modern organizations require networks capable of handling distributed applications, cloud platforms, industrial systems, and connected devices simultaneously. By integrating AI into network operations, ABB is preparing its technology foundation for future business growth while supporting increasingly digital manufacturing operations around the world.

Twenty-Year Partnership Enters Its Next Strategic Phase

The latest agreement represents another milestone in a partnership that has already delivered several large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives. Over the past two decades, TCS has supported ABB in consolidating multiple ERP environments into a unified SAP platform while also accelerating cloud transformation and enterprise technology modernization. Those programmes established a stronger digital foundation that now supports ABB’s next phase of infrastructure evolution. Rather than introducing a new vendor relationship, the agreement demonstrates how long-term technology partnerships continue expanding as enterprise priorities mature. The focus has evolved from application modernization toward intelligent infrastructure capable of supporting digital operations at global scale. As industrial organizations continue investing in AI-powered infrastructure, partnerships that combine operational expertise with technology integration are becoming increasingly important to long-term competitiveness.

Alec Joannou, Group CIO, ABB, said, “The Future Network Model represents an important milestone in reinforcing the digital foundation of ABB’s global operations. As our business evolves, it is critical to have an ecosystem that is resilient, secure, and aligned with long-term transformation goals. Our association with TCS reflects a shared focus on delivery excellence, continuous enhancement, and building capabilities that can support our strategic priorities.”

Anupam Singhal, President, Manufacturing, TCS, said: “For over two decades, TCS has had the privilege of supporting ABB’s transformation journey, and the Future Network Model marks the next chapter in this partnership. With AI embedded into the network operations model, supported by secure digital infrastructure and our deep domain expertise, we are bringing our ‘infrastructure to intelligence’ approach to build a resilient, intelligent network backbone. Through this engagement, we will enable network systems that can sense, adapt, and improve continuously, while strengthening reliability, security, user experience, and scale as ABB continues to advance as a future-ready enterprise.”
