Digital Edge has appointed Paul Macpherson as Chief Data Center Operations Officer, adding a veteran operator to its leadership team as its Asia-Pacific infrastructure footprint grows. The Singapore-based executive will oversee data centre operations across Digital Edge’s expanding platform and report directly to Group CEO John Freeman. The role places operational execution at the centre of the company’s next phase as demand rises from hyperscale, cloud, artificial intelligence and enterprise customers across the region. For Digital Edge, the appointment signals that scaling physical infrastructure now requires the same level of operational discipline as expanding capacity.

Macpherson brings more than 25 years of mission-critical data centre experience spanning Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe. His career includes senior operational responsibilities at Vantage Data Centers, where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for North America. He spent nine years at Amazon Web Services, leading infrastructure operations across Asia-Pacific and working within one of the industry’s largest cloud environments. That background gives Digital Edge an executive with experience across both established infrastructure markets and fast-expanding regional platforms.

Operations Become Strategic as AI Capacity Expands

Digital Edge’s expansion comes as data center operators across Asia-Pacific face increasingly complex requirements from AI workloads and hyperscale deployments. These customers demand predictable availability, rapid operational response and infrastructure capable of supporting higher-density computing environments. Macpherson’s remit will focus on operational consistency throughout Digital Edge’s portfolio, with responsibility covering reliability, safety and performance. Moreover, the mandate gives operations a direct role in determining how effectively the company can convert new capacity into dependable customer infrastructure.

John Freeman, Group CEO of Digital Edge, says: “As Digital Edge continues to scale across Asia-Pacific, maintaining the operational excellence, reliability and responsiveness our customers expect becomes even more important.” The statement puts reliability alongside expansion rather than treating operations as a support function after capacity comes online. That distinction matters as operators build infrastructure for customers whose workloads can carry demanding performance and availability requirements. Digital Edge is therefore positioning operational execution as a core part of its regional growth strategy.

Macpherson Brings Multi-Market Experience

Macpherson’s experience covers several stages of the data center industry, from large-scale cloud infrastructure to hyperscale-focused facilities and rapidly developing markets. His North American leadership at Vantage Data Centers adds experience from a major data center platform operating at significant scale. His AWS tenure adds another dimension through responsibility for infrastructure operations across Asia-Pacific. The combination gives Digital Edge operational experience across different customer models, infrastructure environments and regional growth cycles.

Freeman says: “Paul brings deep industry expertise and a proven track record of leading high-performing operations teams at scale.” He adds: “His experience across both mature and rapidly growing markets will add further depth to our operations leadership team as we continue expanding our platform and supporting our customers’ growth across the region.” The comments underline the expectation that Macpherson will help standardise execution as Digital Edge manages growth across markets with different infrastructure and operating conditions. His appointment gives the company additional senior oversight as its portfolio becomes larger and more operationally complex.

Digital Edge Targets Consistency Across Expansion

The immediate priority is operational consistency across Digital Edge’s portfolio as the company enters new phases of regional expansion. Reliability, safety and performance sit at the centre of Macpherson’s responsibilities, linking day-to-day facility management with the company’s broader infrastructure strategy. That focus becomes significant as customers increasingly depend on data centres for AI processing, cloud services and enterprise workloads. Meanwhile, expansion across multiple markets raises the need for common operational standards without losing responsiveness to local requirements.

Digital Edge’s decision to strengthen its operations leadership reflects a wider shift in the data center sector toward execution as a competitive differentiator. New facilities can add megawatts, but customer trust depends on how consistently those facilities perform once workloads move into production. AI infrastructure raises the stakes because higher-density deployments can place greater demands on power, cooling, availability and operational coordination. Macpherson’s mandate sits directly across those pressure points as Digital Edge works to scale its platform.

APAC Growth Puts Operational Discipline Under Pressure

Asia-Pacific remains a strategically important region for data center expansion, with hyperscalers, cloud providers and enterprises seeking additional computing capacity. Digital Edge’s platform is positioned to serve those customer groups as demand for AI-ready infrastructure continues to reshape deployment priorities. The company’s leadership change suggests that operational capability will remain closely tied to its ability to expand without compromising service expectations. Additionally, experienced regional leadership can help connect infrastructure growth with the operating standards required by increasingly demanding customers.

Macpherson now takes responsibility for an operational portfolio that must support both existing facilities and future expansion. His international background gives him exposure to markets at different stages of data center maturity, an important factor for a company balancing established operations with new development. The appointment strengthens Digital Edge’s leadership bench at a point when infrastructure operators face pressure to deliver capacity faster while maintaining reliability. For customers, the strategic value of the move will ultimately rest on how effectively that operational expertise translates into consistent performance across the region.
