India’s accelerating data centre construction cycle is creating a widening market for companies that sit behind the industry’s most visible operators. Vertiv is positioning itself for that opportunity with a new consultant engagement platform aimed at India’s growing ecosystem of designers, engineers and infrastructure specialists. The move reflects a broader shift in the market, where the commercial opportunity increasingly extends beyond selling capacity and into supplying the systems required to build it. As more projects move from announcements to construction, power, cooling and electrical infrastructure suppliers stand to become increasingly important participants in the country’s digital buildout.

A Growing Market Behind New Capacity

India’s data centre sector has attracted significant investment as cloud providers, digital businesses and enterprises expand their computing footprints. However, every new facility also creates demand for a complex network of equipment and engineering expertise before servers begin operating. That requirement spans electrical distribution, backup power, thermal management, monitoring systems and the specialised design work needed to integrate them. For suppliers, the expanding construction pipeline therefore creates a market that can grow alongside data centre capacity rather than compete directly for it.

Vertiv’s latest initiative focuses on the consultant community that influences many of those early infrastructure decisions. The company has introduced a consultant portal in India designed to provide resources and engagement opportunities for professionals involved in data centre design and development. That approach places Vertiv closer to the specification stage of a project, where technology choices can shape procurement decisions further down the construction cycle. The strategy also highlights how infrastructure vendors are competing for influence earlier in the development process as projects become larger and technically more complex.

Vertiv Moves Closer to Infrastructure Design

The consultant ecosystem has become more significant as Indian data centre projects require increasingly specialised engineering expertise. Developers must balance availability, energy efficiency, density requirements and construction timelines while preparing facilities for rapidly changing IT loads. As a result, consultants and design partners can play a central role in determining which technologies enter a project. Vertiv’s portal seeks to deepen its engagement with that community by providing a dedicated platform for collaboration and access to technical resources.

“Through the Vertiv Consultant Portal, we aim to provide consultants with easy access to the technical resources, expertise and insights they need to design and deliver critical digital infrastructure with greater confidence and efficiency,” said Giordano Albertazzi, Chief Executive Officer at Vertiv.

“The consultant community plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of data centers, and this platform is designed to support them with the right tools and knowledge to address evolving industry demands.”

The initiative arrives as the infrastructure requirements of new data centres continue to evolve. Higher-density computing, particularly workloads associated with artificial intelligence, can place greater pressure on power delivery and cooling systems. That trend gives equipment suppliers a larger role in determining how efficiently a facility can support future capacity. Consequently, competition among vendors may increasingly depend on engineering support and design expertise alongside the performance of individual products.

Suppliers Gain From Construction Complexity

India’s data centre expansion is creating opportunities across several layers of the infrastructure supply chain. Electrical equipment manufacturers can benefit from demand for switchgear, power distribution and backup systems, while cooling specialists face new requirements as rack densities increase. Engineering firms and consultants also gain a larger role because operators need specialised expertise to coordinate these systems. The result is a construction ecosystem where the value of infrastructure can extend well beyond the building itself.

This matters because data centre investment does not translate only into spending by hyperscalers and colocation providers. Each new project triggers procurement across a wider network of technology and engineering companies, creating a secondary market tied directly to the pace of construction. Suppliers that establish relationships with developers and consultants early may gain an advantage when projects enter the specification and procurement stages. For global companies such as Vertiv, India therefore represents not only a market for finished infrastructure but also a growing base for long-term engineering engagement.

The consultant portal also reflects a broader commercial reality in the data centre industry: technology selection increasingly begins long before equipment reaches a construction site. Vendors that can provide design tools, technical knowledge and direct access to specialists may strengthen their position during the planning process. This can become particularly valuable as developers build larger campuses and attempt to standardise infrastructure across multiple locations. The battle for market share, in other words, is moving further upstream.

India’s Pipeline Creates a New Competitive Layer

The growth of India’s data centre sector is reshaping competition among infrastructure suppliers. Companies are no longer competing only on the basis of equipment specifications or pricing once procurement begins. They are also investing in digital platforms, technical partnerships and consultant relationships that can influence how future facilities are designed. Vertiv’s latest move illustrates that shift toward a more integrated commercial strategy.

For the wider supply chain, the opportunity could become increasingly significant as more capacity enters development. Power availability, cooling performance and construction efficiency will remain critical considerations for developers seeking to deploy infrastructure at scale. Suppliers capable of supporting those requirements across the project lifecycle may capture a larger share of spending as the market expands. Vertiv’s consultant platform positions the company within that early decision-making process, where the next phase of India’s data centre boom may increasingly take shape.

The larger story is that India’s data centre expansion is producing its own infrastructure economy. Developers may attract the headlines when new campuses and capacity targets emerge, yet a growing network of suppliers, consultants and engineering firms will determine how quickly those facilities can actually be delivered. Vertiv’s India initiative shows how global infrastructure companies are adapting to that reality. As the construction pipeline grows, the companies supplying the power and cooling systems behind it could become some of the biggest beneficiaries of the boom.
